The Wives in Ministry retreat is a one-and-a-half-day weekend retreat at beautiful Highland Lakes Baptist Camp in Martinsville, IN. Its purpose is to give pastors’ wives from our Indiana SCBI churches the opportunity to get away from the pressures of their roles and enjoy a weekend of rest, teaching, renewal, worship, encouragement, and delight in the love of Jesus. It’s a time to make real connections with women who share the same journey and walked the same road.
This year’s retreat was held on Sept 9 & 10th. The theme was taken from Colossians 2:7 “Let your roots grow down into Him and let your lives be built on Him!”. Forty women from across the state assembled together and included retired pastors’ wives, a breastfeeding mom (and her baby!), and everyone in between.
Friday evening focused on fellowship activities that connected the women with each other – from creating Kokedama Balls to hanging around the campfire until the wee hours of the morning. Scooter Kellum, SCBI Team Leader for Leader Empowerment and Mobilization, welcomed the ladies on Friday with words of support and encouragement for their time at the retreat.
Saturday began with a virtual word of encouragement and humor from Dr. Ryan Strother, SCBI Executive Director since he was at home with the children so his wife Nikki could be free to attend the event! Dana James was this year’s key speaker and brought laughter and a serious love for God’s Word to the women. Autumn Wall, Living Faith Church, led the women through a time of heartfelt worship.
On the fun side, there were multiple giveaways, including an iPad and a $100 Visa gift card! Friday night included fellowship craft time making succulent Kokedama Balls along with women fellowshipping into the wee hours of the morning around the bonfire.
Next year’s retreat is already planned for Sept 8 & 9. Our Indiana Pastor’s Wives are invited to join us for a weekend designed to allow God to minister and equip each lady as they serve in His Kingdom. It will be a weekend you won’t want to miss!
