September was a busy month for Hope Community Church in Brownsburg as they partnered with Mission of Hope to pack 20,000 meals to be sent to children in Haiti. The mission sponsors and feeds 125,000 children each day. Each church that sponsors at least 20k meals allows Mission of Hope to serve an additional 100 kids for an entire year.
In order to participate, Hope Community Church had to raise $6000 for materials and shipping. Mission of Hope then ordered the materials and had them sent to the church. The church set up 8 lines and together they packed nutritious packets of food specially formulated by doctors to help bring kids back from starvation.
Between set-up and packing, this ministry usually requires around 4.5 hours on a Saturday afternoon. On the day of service, Hope Community Church had about 90 volunteers and once they started packing, two and a half hours later, they finished filling and boxing over 20,000 meals! This church moved fast!
Pastor Jim also shared that during the event, there was a member ministering to a young man who lost his job. He needed some serious vehicle work done to his car that included welding the exhaust back together. Members who were packing meals shared information on great career opportunities that the man began pursuing the following week. God used this Saturday afternoon to become a multi-ministry event.
It is encouraging to hear how God is using His church to partner with those in need to share the hope of Christ. How can your church find ways to partner in service to reach the lost?
